Cleaning the cemetery, 2023-2024

In 2023-2024, we regularly took care of the Brzesko Jewish cemetery. In cooperation with the  teachers Dorota Pstrąg, Magdalena Sowa, Bernadeta Styczeń and Dorota Woda, we organized many cemetery clean-up events together with students from primary schools #2 and #3, Brzesko high school and three times – with a group of Polish-German youth.

Thanks to cooperation with the Brzesko City Administrartion, the garbage and dry branches collected by the youth were removed from the cemetery several times, and during the preparations for the March of Remembrance in September 2023 and 2024, employees of the Brzesko Municipal Works also helped to mow a significant part of the necropolis.

We have established cooperation with Krzysztof Mularz’s company, thanks to which the entire area of the cemetery was mowed several times.

The cemetery before and after mowing

In 2024, we obtained permission from the Office for the Protection of Historical Heritage in Tarnów to cut down a partially dried tree, which had been a threat to the monument on the mass grave and people visiting the cemetery for a long time. In April, the tree was cut down and removed very professionally by Mr. Mularz’s company.

The gentlemen worked for over 6 hours; they managed to cut down the tree so that neither the nearby tombstones nor the monument were damaged. The entire area around the tree was cleared, and all branches were removed from the cemetery the same day.

In 2024, we also managed to turn and clean many of the fallen tombstones, thanks to which more people who used to live in Brzesko and vicinity returned from oblivion. Thanks for this work go to conservator Dariusz Jaworek and his team.
