May and June 2017 were spent on completing the necessary formalities. On July 13, 2017, we obtained permission to rebuild the monument on the mass grave.
Special thanks go to Damian Styrna, who put so much heart, talent and work into this project. We discussed the future monument for several months, Damian came up with many versions of the project, and it was not easy to choose one of them. The Hebrew inscription was proposed by prof. Jonathan Webber, who has been involved in Polish-Jewish dialogue for decades and has been supporting our work from the very beginning, when we first started taking care of the cemetery in 2015.
We’ve managed to raise enough funds, and all the necessary materials were purchased by the end of July.
In August, the work was carried out in the workshops of Mr. Jacek Świegoda and the sculptor Mr. Janusz Wątor. At the beginning of September, it was possible to start the assembly of the monument at the cemetery.
Official unveiling of the monument took place during the March of Remembrance on September 17, 2017. You can read about it in a separate article.
